Learning Tools are built into the Microsoft Edge browser, adding more options for readers in your class to interact with texts. Use Learning Tools in Microsoft Edge to hear any webpage or PDF read out loud while following along with the words on screen. 

Immersive Reader in Microsoft Edge now has Learning Tools features such as Read aloud, page themes, text size, syllables, and parts of speech highlighting.

Top Tip

A great feature within the Edge browser is that you can select from a wide range of voices for the read aloud function. The read aloud feature can even be activated on a home page when no website or URL has been selected.

A tool within Immersive Reader

There are many reasons to listen to a document, such as proofreading, multitasking, or increased comprehension and learning. Word makes listening possible by using the text-to-speech (TTS) ability of your device to play back written text as spoken words.

Read Aloud reads all or part of your document. You can use Read Aloud on its own or within Immersive Reader for Word in Windows and MacOS.

The Compassion Project in an advisory or morning meeting to ground students in SEL thinking for the day. If you already use an SEL curriculum, you could easily tie in another framework to these lessons since they teach specific skills.

When installed and enabled, Crafty Cursor is a Chrome extension that allows a user to highlight their on screen cursor, so that if somebody with a visual impairment was viewing, the cursor is very easily tracked. Whether you are delivering face to face and presenting on a large display device such as a tv or projector screen, when you are sharing your screen over a live video call or even when recording your screen for a video resource, this extension can have a huge impact.

The extension allows you to choose which colour the highlight circle is too.
